Appreciate the beauty and majesty of birds through the eyes of one of the world’s premier wildlife artists in our newest exhibition, “An Artist for Conservation: The Paintings of Albert Earl Gilbert.” See the courtship feeding of great hornbills; an egret family under Florida skies; a majestic harpy eagle from the Amazon; and a resplendent quetzal, the sacred bird of the Mayans and Aztecs–all painted in their native habitat under often harrowing conditions. The artist’s lifelong dedication to conservation is on view too. Hooded Merganser, winning entry in the 45th federal duck stamp contest raised over $11 million to acquire habitat and protect wildlife. Audubon Hawk Chart, one of his proudest accomplishments, was instrumental in banning the pesticide DDT.
